Obsessed with my matcha!

I just got the Matsu Ceremonial Grade Matcha and it's incredible! The flavor is so smooth and vibrant. I've tried other brands, but this one really stands out. Shipping was quick too, it arrived in just a few days. I'm already planning my next order for some teaware. Definitely recommending Matchaeologist to all my friends!

Detailed review of my first order

I placed my first order with Matchaeologist last week, opting for the Ceremonial Starter Collection. The ordering process on their website was straightforward and intuitive; I had no issues finding what I needed. Shipping took exactly 5 business days to reach my address in New York, which felt standard. The kit itself was well-packaged, and all components, including the Ceramic Matcha Bowl and Bamboo Whisk Chasen, arrived in perfect condition. I was particularly impressed with the Misaki Ceremonial Grade Matcha included; it had a vibrant green color and a smooth, mellow flavor when prepared according to their guide. I did have a quick question about storing the matcha, and their customer service responded within a few hours, which was helpful. Overall, a very positive initial experience from browsing to brewing.

Mostly happy with order

I bought the Matcha Brewing Kit and some Matsu Ceremonial Grade Matcha. The matcha itself is quite good, and the tools are decent quality, especially the Bamboo Whisk Chasen. My main gripe was that the Cloud Glass Katakuchi Bowl arrived with a tiny chip on the rim. It's not a huge deal, and I didn't bother with a return, but it was a bit disappointing. Delivery took about 6 days, which is reasonable. For the price, it's fair value, but they could improve their packaging for fragile items.

Reliably good matcha

Another solid order from Matchaeologist. I've been getting their Misaki Ceremonial Grade Matcha for a while now, and it's consistently excellent. This time I also picked up a Bamboo Tea Scoop Chashaku, which is really nice. Their shipping is always prompt, typically taking about 4-5 days to get to me in California. It's why I keep coming back; I know what I'm getting.

Quick shipping, good matcha

Got the Meiko Ceremonial Grade Matcha. It arrived fast. The matcha tastes good, very fresh. Happy with the purchase. Will buy again when I run out.

What's the return policy on the teaware? What if a bowl arrives broken?

S Sarah D. 1 month ago
I returned a chawan once because I changed my mind, it was pretty straightforward. Just make sure it's in original condition and you follow their process.

D Dana Torres 1 month ago
If it arrives broken, you should definitely contact them right away. For regular returns, you probably have a certain window to send it back, like 30 days or something. Check their site.

Thinking of getting the Modern Matcha Starter Set. Is it worth it or should I just buy the pieces separately?

R Renee 3 weeks ago
The starter set is usually a good deal if you're getting everything anyway. Saves a bit of cash compared to buying each piece solo.

It's great for beginners! I got it and it had everything I needed. Plus, it's often part of a bundle deal, so you save some money.

How does their matcha compare to something like Ippodo? I've been using Ippodo for a while but looking to try something new.

R Ryan W. 3 weeks ago
I've had both! Ippodo is good, but I find Matchaeologist's ceremonial grades a bit smoother, less bitter. More subtle notes, if that makes sense.

Different vibe. Matchaeologist feels a bit more modern, and their flavor profiles are slightly different. I prefer Matchaeologist for a daily brew, but Ippodo has some really strong ones too. Worth trying a small amount to compare.

Is Matchaeologist legit? The prices are pretty high and I want to make sure it's not some scam.

L Lisa Hughes 1 month ago
Totally legit. It's premium stuff, that's why the price. Been ordering from them for years.

What's the shipping time like to California? Trying to get some matcha before my trip next week.

B Brett 1 month ago
Mine took about 4-5 business days to get to LA. They're pretty quick usually.

I'm in NorCal, usually get my order in about a week. Might be cutting it close for your trip, depending on when you order.

is the Matsu matcha really that much better than Misaki? trying to decide which ceremonial one to get.

S Steve Whitfield 1 month ago
Matsu is definitely a step up. It's got a richer, more complex flavor. Misaki is good for everyday, but Matsu is for when you want something special.

R Rosa N. 1 month ago
Depends on your palate. Matsu is more premium, so you'll notice a difference in depth and smoothness. Misaki is still ceremonial grade and very good, just not quite as 'wow' as Matsu, in my opinion.

Do they offer any discount for first time buyers? Or should I wait for a holiday sale?

L Lisa B. 1 month ago
Pretty sure they almost always have a first order discount if you sign up for their newsletter. Usually 10-15% off.

N Nick 1 month ago
Yeah, check for a pop-up when you first hit the site. I got 10% off my first order that way.

hey, anyone know if the matcha is actually organic? I'm trying to avoid pesticides and stuff.

M Marcus H. 1 month ago
Yeah, I think their Meiko grade specifically says it's organic. Not sure about all of them though.

O Omar E. 1 month ago
From what I remember seeing, some of their stuff is organic but not all. Best to check the product page for the specific matcha you're looking at.
